Catherine's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
