At Least 98 Palestinians Have Died in Detention Beginning in October 2023, Statistics from Israel Shows
Per data released by Israel, a minimum of 98 Palestinians have lost their lives while detained since October 2023. An advocacy organization operating from Israel has stated that the real figure is likely substantially higher, as a result of many of disappeared detainees from Gaza.

“Regardless of this large quantity of fatalities, over two years not one individual has faced arrest,” the official stated. “There have been no prosecutions over any fatality.
“While these policies remain in effect, every Palestinian in detention is at peril, including the physically well individuals, even the youth who have no health problems.”
High-Profile Cases
Certain fatalities in confinement have been widely reported, for instance a senior medical chief who lost his life in prison after a third of a year in custody.
A prisoner held with the victim testified that he was led to the courtyard by guards immediately preceding his death, visibly injured and unclothed from the lower body. His corpse has not been repatriated to Gaza.
Further inmates who perished in confinement by Israeli authorities are unidentified. The prison service and military supplied analysts with the figure of casualties in custody, and basic further data such as the site where they perished, but not the inmates’ personal details.
Recognition Difficulties
In 21 cases, mostly individuals from Gaza, researchers were not able to correlate the minimal data given by authorities to a death registered by rights organisations, by means of statements from released detainees or accounts in the press.
